Nia classes are not currently offered at Euphoria. Please check back later.
Traditional benefits of Nia include cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, strength, balance, endurance, and relaxation. Nia delivers more esoteric benefits through the conscious application of specific meditation and concentration techniques. Nia engages the spirit and touches people’s hearts, giving them permission to play and more intimately connect with themselves and with others. It encourages inner exploration and self-discovery and guides students to move through their own unique, infinitely creative space. Nia is guided by the Pleasure Principle – if the body feels good, accepted, and loved, it will naturally become stronger and heal.
Erika Ruber, Nia Blue Belt, has been teaching Nia for the past three years. Beginning her Nia career as the first Nia teacher in Denmark, Erika loves to share the joy of Nia. Erika believes that everyone has a unique way of moving and that Nia helps people reconnect to their own bodies. Teaching in a variety of settings throughout the Portland area including dance studios, fitness clubs, elementary schools, mental health agencies, and community centers, Erika believes that everyone can benefit from embodying sensation and employing mindfullness. Using a playful and expressive style, Erika will invite you to gain depth and awareness into how your body moves. So, come and see how Nia can enhance your life!
Kali Rose, Brown Belt Nia Instructor and Dancer. My joy for movement – and personal expression – began as a young child. Pictures of me as a clown, ballerina, and table dancer (!) still inspire me to this day. My Nia training has been the perfect compliment to my stage experiences and continuing desire to be a dancer, healer, leader, and performance artist. My own process of using Nia to self-heal severe joint pain and resulting immobility is the loudest and clearest voice I can give to the power of this simple, yet extremely effective technique. Learning day-by-day to love, heal, and strengthen the body I am in… and dancing this love with other students and teachers… that is my way of sharing my passion and igniting yours. Let’s Dance!
